TONY CLENNELL
Casual Pots & Extreme Handles

FIVE DAY WORKSHOP

Welcome Dinner July 13
July 14 to 18, 2025
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (lunches included)

This hands-on workshop explores the making of bold, functional pottery designed for occasional use — pieces meant for celebration, presentation, and gathering. We’ll focus on the details that elevate large casseroles, pitchers, bowls, baskets, and plates into the realm of the meaningful.

Over the years, my practice has centered on sectional or composite throwing — joining multiple parts to form a single vessel. I’ve developed a distinctive approach to building and attaching handles, combining thrown, pulled, and hand-built techniques. In this workshop, we’ll dive into the world of extreme handles, a signature element of my work.

We’ll also explore gestural brushwork and surface techniques that create tactile, geological marks — evidence of process and the maker’s hand.

Bring your curiosity, your courage, and a smile.
