REBECCA HARVEY
Speaking with Objects
FIVE DAY WORKSHOP
Welcome Dinner August 17
August 18 to 22, 2025
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (lunches included)
We are, by nature, collectors of objects. They define us, describe our experiences, capture memories, and mark the stories of our lives. This workshop invites you to work with forms in a way that creates a conversation — a collaboration — between object and artist.
Each of us carries a storehouse of object memories: forms, colors, and shapes we recognize and respond to. We will spend time with the "re" words:
• Re-cognize — to know again
• Re-spond — to reply
Some objects evoke a call and response unique to each of us. They shape the ongoing conversation we have been having with the world since the beginning. This workshop is designed to help you tap into those deep form-memories, and to deepen that dialogue through making and shared reflection.
We will build with clay using a range of techniques — handbuilding, press molding, throwing, attaching, carving, and joining wet and dry clay. Coloured slips and underglazes will be used to both define and undefine the objects that arise.
The setting is intimate, and the conversations, like the objects themselves, will be rich and layered.
You’ll leave here with a renewed sense of how and why we make.
Limited to 8 students.
