GARDENS

‘Like a book, a garden belongs to everyone who sees it’
— Marc Hamer, 2021

The native gardens at Potter's Creek Studios, including purple coneflowers and black-eyed Susans, surrounded by mature trees.

The gardens celebrate the native beauty of Norfolk County, one of the most ecologically rich regions in Canada. We have over 150 different native plant species growing among mature trees and Potter’s Creek.

With the expertise of Kevin Kavanagh, of South Coast Gardens, more than 10,000 square feet of lawn was removed and replaced with native and near-native plantings. This transformation began with my mother and continues.

The restored habitat now offers important food and shelter for a wide and diverse range insects, birds and other species.
